Confluence of Arts

Founded in 1949 near the heart of Delhi (Connaught Place), Triveni Kala Sangam is a centre for creative arts. Its location on one of the most easily accessible roads of Delhi makes it the most sought-after centre for visual forms of art such as sculptures, paintings & photography etc. Also, in its vicinity is the multifarious Bengali Market, famous for its Pani Puris, Chaat (street food) & chilled Paan (Betel Leaf).

Getting There

Reaching Triveni is a piece of cake. The easiest & most convenient way to get there is by the Delhi Metro. Triveni is located at Tansen Marg, at a distance of just 150 M from the Mandi House Metro Station. Just behind the Kendra is the Shri Ram Centre for Art & Culture and facing the entry; on the opp side is FICCI Federation House. On the left side is Sangeet Bharati & on the right are residential quarters. Mandi House is the hub for media offices, auditoriums, creative arts, theatre & exhibitions.

Inside the Premises

Just as one enters Triveni’s premises, one is greeted by a large signboard in the lawn which displays posters & details all the on-going exhibitions. On entering the building, you will find the main reception with amicable staff always willing to take up course queries. Opp it is the Shridharani Gallery, named after the founder - Sundari K Shridharani. It is the grandest of all galleries present at the centre.

As one proceeds further, on the right-hand side there appears a lush green stair garden known as The Eye - Triveni Garden Theatre which is an open-air theatre-cum-gallery, & on the left-hand side are two  galleries facing the lawn – Art Heritage I & II, which always have some exhibition on display. A very interesting facet of the centre is Prakriti which is an exhibition-cum-retail space for selling of pots, potted plants, bonsais & beautiful garden accessories (bells, fountains, wind chimes, graffiti etc.).

General Restrictions

At various places inside the campus, one will come across notices like "Right of Entry Reserved", "Smoking and Drinking Prohibited" & "Do not sit/loiter around in the lawn". Visitors have many such restrictions & they lack access to the Triveni Tea Terrace too, as it’s only for students, staff & art lovers.

Moving on from the art heritage galleries is the Triveni Tea Terrace on the right, a basement gallery called Nook Artists Gallery which exhibits glass, ceramic fibre work & photography. Further behind the reception is the Sculpture Court which is an open-air piece of land for sculpture-exhibitions. Right in front are the art department, photography studios & on the top floor are artists' studios where general public cannot enter.

It is open on all days except for Sundays. whereas the galleries are open from 11 AM-7 PM & photography at Prakriti (the garden boutique) as well as inside the various galleries are prohibited. Triveni Kala Sangam is truly an amalgamation of creative arts & stands true to the meaning of it's name - “Confluence of Arts”.
